TGH47 is the skeleton renovation of a single unit of about 220 square meters in a high-rise residential tower in central Tokyo. The design was led by our partner, the Taiwanese architect Lin Jianhua of doT & Associates, while our role centered on detailed design and construction supervision.
Marble-look stone, built-in walnut furniture, herringbone wood floors, brass hardware, and indirect lighting tucked into coffered ceilings directly reflect the client's wishes. Composed of fine materials and light, the space has the calm presence of a hotel suite. So that it can also host visiting guests and casual business meetings, a spacious living and dining room sits at the center, surrounded by a guest room, a lounge, and two bedrooms. A generous sense of scale unlike that of typical Japanese homes, together with a distinctive choice of materials, gives the residence its own particular atmosphere.
This was also our first project carried out entirely in BIM, from start to finish. Sharing information with the design team in Taiwan, we studied in three dimensions how materials meet and how finishes integrate with building services. This supported precise detailed design, consensus-building with the client, and coordination with contractors and manufacturers.
