ホテル椿館西館の客室改修にあわせてデザインした、広縁に置くオリジナルのテーブル。客室のミニマルなデザインに合わせて余計な要素を削ぎ落とし、建物外観の特徴であるアーチ窓のモチーフを脚部の形に取り入れた。シャープな直線が支配的な客室の中で、頭上の和紙の楕円ペンダント照明に呼応するような円弧の曲線が空間に柔らかさを与える小さくも効果的なアクセントになることを狙ったものである。
本体は、型抜きした4枚のスチールプレートと天板のプレートを溶接で一体化し、1枚の板を折り曲げたようなすっきりとした佇まいに仕上げている。天板には木目のメラミン化粧板を組み合わせ、外周のフレームを1cmほど立ち上げることで物が落ちにくいように配慮するとともに、全体のシャープな輪郭を際立たせている。
An original side table designed for the hiroen window spaces of the guest rooms in the Hotel Tsubakikan West Wing renovation. In keeping with the rooms' minimal design, everything unnecessary was pared away, and the arched windows that characterize the building's exterior were taken up as the motif for the legs. In rooms composed mainly of straight lines, the curve of the arch echoes the oval washi pendant light above. It is meant as a small but effective accent that brings softness to the space.
The body consists of four die-cut steel plates welded together with the top plate into a single piece. The result has a clean presence, as if it were folded from one sheet of steel. The top is finished with wood-grain melamine laminate. Its outer steel frame rises about 1 cm above the surface, which keeps objects from sliding off such a small table and also accentuates the crisp edge of its outline.
